AUCHENTOSHAN DISTILLERY IS A SMALL LOWLAND DISTILLERY JUST 10 MILES NORTH OF GLASGOW. AUCHENTOSHAN, TRANSLATED MEANS 'CORNER OF A FIELD' IT IS THE ONLY DISTILLERY IN SCOTLAND TO USE THE TRIPLE DISTILLATION PROCESS USING 3 STILLS. ON THE LEFT YOU CAN SEE THE FIRST ON THESE STILLS, THE WASH STILL.
AUCHENTOSHAN DISTILLERY USES UNPEATED BARLEY TO MAKE THE WHISKY, THEY ARGUE THAT MORE OF THE NATURAL FLAVOURS COME THROUGH IN THE FINAL PRODUCT

FROM THE WASH STILL, THE DEVELOPING SPIRIT IS DISTILLED A SECOND TIME IN THE INTERMEDIATE STILL BEFORE BEING MOVED ONTO THE SPIRIT STILL FOR THE FINAL DISTILLATION.

BECAUSE THE WHISKY IS DISTILLED 3 TIMES, IT NEEDS THEN TO GO INTO THE SPIRIT STILL, THE WHISKY PRODUCED IS AT 81.6% vol, THE STONGEST WHISKY PRODUCED ON MAINLAND SCOTLAND, THE TRIPLE DISTILLING PROCESS GIVES THE WHISKY A LIGHTER SMOOTHER TASTE.
